William H. Donaldson, 93, Wall St. Powerbroker Who Led the S.E.C., Dies

William H. Donaldson, a co-founder of the securities firm Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, and former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, passed away at the age of 93. Donaldson was known for his advocacy for increased financial regulation following the Enron and WorldCom scandals. He also served as an under secretary of state under Henry A. Kissinger, headed the New York Stock Exchange, and was the CEO of Aetna Inc. Donaldson played a pivotal role in establishing Yale University’s School of Organization and Management. His securities firm, D.L.J., focused on providing sophisticated research to institutional investors in smaller, up-and-coming firms.
